Horizon, take 4

Another Horizon Forest project, done and done. I was invited to their corporate office in Raleigh to fill their foyer's empty wall.

I've learned a lot about efficiency and order of operations in the last couple of weeks - having a fully finished plan before I start is the absolute best way to assure peace of mind and speed.

The project went very smoothly, and we very efficiently ended up finishing ahead of schedule! We even got to eat lunch at The Pit and explore the chocolaterie across the street.

I've got my fingers crossed that they'll need more signs at their other locations too...!

Kitchen Labels

FInished a quick little at-home project a bit ago, doodling on a craigslist furniture find.   Our kitchen lacks drawers of any kind, so we snatched the first thing we found that seemed suitable, mild hideousness overlooked for the moment.

Roommates being what they are (although ours are as kind and good as can be), I am compelled to label everything so that I have a hope for finding something on the first try.

The labels are white acrylic with different kinds of marker on top.

I wish I had tested my colors first. Some of the marker brands and colors faded very quickly, while some others (Sharpie) didn't change at all. Markers tend to hate drawing on top of paint, but Crayola washables are apparently just fine with it (use what you got, right?)

And now... hmmm... sort of looks like it needs a little something else too, doesn't it? Perhaps you will see this thing of mine again later.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

HIIIIIIYAH! I have my business license, registration, and name certificate all in hand! HerrSuite is an LLC, and I even have my first official customer all lined up!

Of course, I have had a lot of customers before this - friends, family, and even a few strangers - who have put their trust in a young artist, and I can't thank you enough.

Upon graduation, I didn't send out resumés or set up interviews, and my answer to the 'So do you have a job?' question was a little vague.  Instead, I was brimming with happy self-employment clichés: working for myself, setting my own hours, loving what I do, blurring the line between life and work....

Starting HerrSuite is my way of wrapping all of those clichés up and finding the reality in them.  I've learned a lot since painting my first mural in my bedroom in 2007, and it feels like I've been several different people in the meantime.  I know I have a lot of work to do to punch through the next two years (the most deadly time for any young business) - but I've reached a real mile-marker, and I'm more excited than ever to paint and plan and draw and climb up and down all the walls I can.  I'm still up to elbows in plans and ideas, and I hope to be for a long, long time.
