BHNY Tree of Life
Overview
This is one of several murals in Be Here Now Yoga & Wellness, a yoga studio in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Washington, DC. The owners requested three hindu gods - Ganesha, Shiva, and Hanuman - and a tree of life, all inspired by the style of Gustav Klimt.
This mural emulates Klimt's Stoclet Frieze, one of his most famous paintings. The Frieze depicts a tree of life and two figures on either side. To adapt to the space, I used the loosely-formed patterns and bright colors to paint headers for each doorway in the room. These replaced the figures in the original design.
